Latest News Synopsis Gotham City’s dark night first appeared in Detective Comics #27, published by DC Comics, in 1939. Batman, a character co-created by Bill Finger and Bob Kane, was already fighting crime when he first appeared in the comic world. It wasn’t until Detective Comics #33, however, that his origin was explored, and the character has been a legend ever since. The most common origins of Batman begin when he witnesses the murder of his parents, Thomas and Martha Wayne, at eight years old. His parents were known to be one of the richest couples in Gotham City and charitable socialites. They owned Wayne Enterprises, which Bruce takes control of later on. Bruce was left in the care of his loyal butler Alfred Pennyworth. The death of his parents haunted him and he vowed to fights crime as he was growing up. He does not have superpowers, but his abilities lie in his physical and mental strength. He has a lair which he calls the Batcave. The character quickly made it to the hearts of readers and he quickly earned his own ongoing series, though Detective Comics continued on with him as the star. He continues the legacy of his parents as a charitable entrepreneur. He is known to be a playboy who falls in love quite often as well, but this is all an act to keep his heroic secret identity safe. His character is popularly associated with the Justice League, a group of superheroes which he co-founded with Superman, Aquaman, Flash, Green Lantern, Martian Manhunter, and Wonder Woman. Together, they protected the Earth. Another hero he is closely associated with is Robin (aka Dick Grayson), who he shares adventures with in the Batman and Robin series. Robin was also created by Finger and Kane, together with Jerry Robinson as a sidekick to Batman. Like Batman, Robin was also orphaned at an early age. His parents were trapeze performers who died while performing. Batman worked on the case and eventually took custody of the young Robin.
